Description:
Dear Friends, With the support of the International Rescue Committee and the Asia Society, we are organizing a fundraising event for earthquake relief in Pakistan here in New York City on November 28th. As you know, following the earthquake, up to three million people will need shelter as winter sets in --- within three weeks --- in the Himalayas. The death toll has already risen to 73,000, and for the remaining three million "what they have on December 1 is what they have all winter." Basically, according to the Times, this threatens to be the greatest humanitarian disaster ever. Foreign donations so far amount to $131 million and the UN actually needs about $312 million for immediate relief.
