Dear Friends,
With the support of the International Rescue Committee and the Asia Society, we are organizing a fundraising event for earthquake relief in Pakistan here in New York City on November 28th.
As you know, following the earthquake, up to three million people will need shelter as winter sets in --- within three weeks --- in the Himalayas. The death toll has already risen to 73,000, and for the remaining three million "what they have on December 1 is what they have all winter." Basically, according to the Times, this threatens to be the greatest humanitarian disaster ever. Foreign donations so far amount to $131 million and the UN actually needs about $312 million for immediate relief.
Beyond our wish to lessen the potential for further tragedy our goal is also for American foreign policy to serve as a moderating influence in the Kashmir region. This benefit is our private contribution, our attempt to demonstrate that America has a human face.
All proceeds from the evening will go to the International Rescue Committee. The event will be hosted by Ambassador Richard Holbrooke, the former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and current Chairman of the Asia Society. In addition there are a number of other prominent people from the diplomatic world (Munir Akram, Ambassador Frank Wisner and Nick Platt), intellectual figures (Salman Rushdie, Judea Pearl, Bernard-Henri Levy and Fareed Zakaria) and others from the South Asian business community who are on the host committee and who will be attending the event. The goal is to raise $150K+ that evening through a combination of serious host committee members* and ticket sales.

Time: 6:30 - 9:00pm.
Ticket Price Per Person: $250 and up
