The Disaster: On October 8, 2005 a 7.6 magnitude earthquake wreaked death, homelessness and infrastructure damage across India and Pakistan. The hardest hit areas are in Pakistan, where death tolls are in the tens of thousands and millions of people have been left homeless.

Our Response: The Committee for Global Relief in association with South Asia Studies at The Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Johns Hopkins University invites you to support this response to the worst natural disaster South Asia has experienced in over 100 years.  This benefit is unique in that it is being organized by a Committee which comprises young leaders of the Indian-American and Pakistani-American communities.  The reception will bring together the two communities for a common cause and will be a precedent for future cooperation on shared interests.  The beneficiary of the reception will be CARE (www.care.org), which will divide the funds between CARE in India and CARE in Pakistan.  CARE in Pakistan is a local partner with The Rural Support Programmes Network , (www.rspn.org), which will be the ultimate recipient for the Pakistan funds.  RSPN is a network comprising the largest NGO in Pakistan and is headed by a SAIS Graduate.  Both CARE and RSPN are on the ground in the affected areas and report that there is an immediate need for assistance as winter descends on the areas devastated by the earthquake.  Your support at this critical time is greatly appreciated!
