PakistanSave Pakistan from 'Donor Fatigue'
From Christian Science Monitor
By Karl F. Inderfurth, David Fabrycky, and Stephen P. Cohen WASHINGTON - Time is running out for tens of thousands of survivors of the 7.6 earthquake that devastated parts of Pakistan on Oct. 8, claiming more than 73,000 lives and leaving 3 million homeless. Winter is fast approaching. Experts believe 1 million people are at risk of hypothermia. Two hundred thousand villagers in more remote areas may soon be cut off by snow. A "second wave" of deaths from cold, hunger, and disease is feared. URGENT: Appeal for young medical doctorsURGENT: Young medical doctors needed for medical team working with SUNGI out of Muzaffarabad. I post this on behalf of a close friend who just called me from Muzzaffarabad, where he is working with SUNGI. SUNGI urgently needs medical doctors and/or final year medical students as part of a medical team to *travel by foot for several hours* to outlying villages beyond Muzaffarabad that *have not been accessed at all* as they are only accessibly by foot, and where individuals and families need urgent medical help. Assalam O Alaikum
I have been impressed by the level of activity and charity generated by the community in response to the tragic earthquake in Pakistan. In these times, it is imperative that we all work together and give the most that we can to the relief and reconstruction effort.
