The 8th October earthquake was the worst natural disaster ever experienced by Pakistan. Below is a fact sheet on general statistics related to the damage caused by the earthquake and the progress of relief work:
Devastation
- 1,000 confirmed dead, and 67,000 injured
- 3.3 million people (2 million in Azad Kashmir and 1.3 million in NWFP) rendered homeless
- $5 billion damage to infrastructure
- 20,000 sq. miles of area affected
- 8,000 schools destroyed
- 15,000 villages directly affected
- Most affected regions are Jehlum Valley and Neelum Valley
