Earthquake facts from the Embassy of Pakistan

The 8th October earthquake was the worst natural disaster ever experienced by Pakistan. Below is a fact sheet on general statistics related to the damage caused by the earthquake and the progress of relief work:

Devastation

  •     1,000 confirmed dead, and 67,000 injured
  •     3.3 million people (2 million in Azad Kashmir and 1.3 million in NWFP) rendered homeless
  •     $5 billion damage to infrastructure
  •     20,000 sq. miles of area affected
  •     8,000 schools destroyed
  •     15,000 villages directly affected
  •     Most affected regions are Jehlum Valley and Neelum Valley
